Position Summary

The Pathologist/Senior Pathologist represents the Pathology function on project teams composed of PhD biologists, image analyst experts, histologists, statisticians, and regulatory scientists. The pathologist will deliver and/or review key scientific data supporting IHC/CISH assay development and advanced image analysis endpoints for testing non-clinical and clinical hypotheses in primarily Oncology and Musculoskeletal disease. The position requires a highly motivated anatomic pathologist with excellent customer and presentation skills and the ability to work within Flagship’s team-based environment. A collaborative nature and outstanding learning agility are essential.

Preference will be given to candidates with partial or full board certification (ACVP or equivalent), as well as a completed PhD degree. Experience in drug development, oncology, immunology and/or IHC/CISH biomarker development is desired. A strong interest in developing novel tissue image analysis solutions for complex pathology questions is vital.

Reports to:  VP of Program Development

Essential Job Functions

  • Act as the pathology subject matter expert on cross functional project teams
    • Advise tissue biomarker development (immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization predominantly) and evaluate tissue expression patterns in the context of disease pathogenesis and progression
    • Establish manual biomarker scoring strategies and apply to image analysis solutions for studies using either preclinical or clinical samples
    • Perform activities supporting the qualification or analytical validation of IHC/ISH biomarkers and image analysis solutions
    • Review image analysis annotation and algorithm outputs
    • Author appropriate sections of client-facing reports or presentations
    • Represent Pathology during client facing discussions
  • Lead or contribute to internal research and development efforts
    • Author or co-author publications, abstracts, or posters
    • Lead or assist in intellectual property development (patents)
    • Evaluate new capabilities as necessary
  • Perform limited business evaluation of new and existing services
  • Conduct client visits as necessary

Basic Qualifications

  • DVM/VMD: Board-eligible (Pathologist) or board certified by the ACVP or equivalent (Pathologist or Senior Pathologist)
  • Applicable job experience: 0-5 yrs (Pathologist) or >5 yrs experience (Senior Pathologist) in anatomic pathology
  • Advanced training or experience in immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to travel on a limited basis
